Fishing Carter on Lake Erie

.As I posted on Facebook we had our first guest in fifteen years who went on a fishing charter expedition out on Lake Erie. They came back with a 12# walleye that was one of the biggest caught this year on the charter boat.

People seem to always think about a fishing charter while on vacation to the ocean but we have lived near Lake Erie all of our lives and I do not think I ever really thought about charter fishing here in our own back yard! So sad! And now after 15 years as a B & B we have our first ever Lake Erie fisherman! Congratulations to Rick Vest of Vest Berries in Stewart, Ohio for catching that giant fish!

Then I got to thinking and wondering just how many charter fishing businesses are located near us here in Lorain County. Oberlin is located in Lorain County about 10 miles south of the lake so not too far of a drive. After you catch your limit of fish then drive back to Oberlin for a relaxing dip in the pool or hot tub, stay the night and enjoy a complimentary breakfast. Read here to find out why we are an unusual place to stay! A quick Google search showed me that if you want to go fishing you have many charter companies from which to choose. I counted 8 less than 15 miles away. In case I have piqued your interest and you get the fishing bug I will save you some time and you can check out the links below.

On your charter fishing trip to Lake Erie you will be fishing for wallleye, yellow perch, and small mouth bass. Like all fishing though you will need a license, and you need to follow Ohio fishing regulations.

The 2017 National Walleye Championship sponsored by Cabela’s was held right here in Lorain, Ohio this past June 8-10.  A total of 251 teams qualified to enter by winning local competitions. The team who won shared in the jackpot of over $250,000 in cash and prizes. So all you anglers warm up your fishing pole, book a fishing charter, catch some walleye, and qualify for next years competition. You may be the winner! Unfortunately Lorain will not be hosting the tournament but instead the 2018 Cabela’s National Team Championship will be in Moline, IL May 16-19.

For your next vacation plan a fishing charter trip out in Lake Erie. It really sounds like fun!
