What is a cupcake crawl?
A ‘cupcake crawl’ is a new event to Lorain County but not new to other areas. Disney World did a cupcake crawl in 2014 throughout the park. Boston and New York City held theirs as a walking tour through the city. Our new local event is a driving tour and guaranteed to placate your sweet tooth with mouth watering, delightful, heavenly cupcakes! And it will get you out and about to see the fall foliage in Northeast Ohio!
Six bakeries in Lorain County and one in Medina County will be participating in the crawl. Each bakery will be offering their own UNIQUE cupcake flavor for the entire month of October from the 1st to the 31st.Therefore no need to try and eat eight cupcakes in one day! And yes, there are prizes attached! Visit 5 of the bakeries and score a T-shirt for yourself. Visit all 7 bakeries and get the T-shirt plus be eligible for the raffle drawing at the end of the month.
What you need to do!
- First you will need a map and a passport which must be signed by each authorized baker. These can be downloaded from Visit Lorain County or picked up at any participating bakery.
- Go to the bakeries and purchase each bakeries UNIQUE cupcake. Eat it and enjoy every crumb!
- Receive an official signature at each bakery.
- Turn in the completed passport, with signatures, to one of the redemption sites.
Who and where are the bakeries located?
There are seven bakeries participating in the cupcake crawl all throughout the month of October. They are as follows:
- Blue Rooster Bakehouse, Oberlin
- Kelsey Elizabeth Cakes, Avon Lake
- Kiedrowski’s Bakery, Amherst
- Little Devil Cupcakery, Amherst
- Small Town Sweets, Vermilion
- The Hive Cake Studio, Amherst
- A Cupcake A Day, Medina
So do not delay! It is a beautiful day so download your map and passport and visit the closet bakery to your home. What a treat! And maybe you will win the grand prize! And if you want to visit all the bakeries in one weekend then plan to stay overnight at Hallauer House B & B! Enjoy our amenities and then set out to ‘crawl’ around and get your cupcakes!
And now a BIG SHOUT OUT to a High School Student – OLIVIA COWARD of OLIVIA’S CUPCAKES!
And while I have written about the cupcake crawl that highlights local bakery businesses I would like to give a standing ovation to one special baker who is too young yet to have her own bakery in a store front. She is a senior at the local Joint Vocational School majoring in culinary arts plus she has her own on-line local cupcake business! Her name is Olivia Coward and her Facebook page is full of pictures of her creations and her contact information. She made 150 cupcakes for our granddaughters high school commencement party. The four different varieties she made received raves from all of the guests in attendance. Strawberry Shortcake, Margarita, Raspberry Lemon, and Chocolate Covered Cherry were the four varieties that she made for the party. A crumb could not be found anywhere! Even the presentation was great as seen in this picture below. Thank you Olivia!
