Unique Lodging of Ohio – Runner Up!
The Award
The Unique Lodging of Ohio Runner Up award for 2017 was presented to the 1830 Hallauer House Bed & Breakfast on November 20! And needless to say “We are thrilled!” This is our third time as a runner up for the Ohio Hotel and Lodging Association (OH&LA)
independent properties award. In 2010 and 2012 we were a finalist for Ohio B & B of the year, the name of the award before it was changed to ULO (Unique Lodging of Ohio) a few years ago.
The winner again this year with the ‘unique’ title is The Welch Hills Inn in Granville, OH. So if you are visiting Denison College or Kenyon College you might seek them out for your overnight stay. But if you are coming to Oberlin give Hallauer House a call!
So exactly what makes a property unique in order to win this honor. The Thesaurus denotes unique as being something that is rare, different, curious, distinct to name just a few adjectives. Therefore, you might wonder what qualities Hallauer House has that helped us surpass the other 7 nominees to come in as the runner up.
How is Hallauer House a Unique Lodging
As our guests like to tell us, there are three qualities that make us stand out above the crowd and which helped us achieve runner up ahead of 7 other properties:
- The many amenities we offer for being just a small three room B & B.
- The many interesting ice breakers, table settings, and compelling history stories told by the Innkeeper during breakfast.
- The unique Garden of Misfit Junk.
A previous BLOG post goes into much detail on what amenities are available here so be sure to click that link and enjoy the article.
Joe,owner/Innkeeper, is the resident historian. He is noted for his stunning table settings, his breakfast contest, and his history stories at breakfast. He amazes with his knowledge of Oberlin history, the Civil War, and the Underground Railroad. Even frequent guests come back asking for more history!
Finally we come to the garden. The Garden of Misfit Junk is unique for the very reason that it is a combination of perennials, annuals, shrubs, trees, and unconventional ‘junk’ items strategically placed to please the eye.
For a closer look at the garden there will be a more detailed BLOG POST coming in the spring with visions of new and old junk! So keep an eye out! Or check out the Tour Page on our website.
Many other little things make us unique and for those you will need to come and stay. Reserve a room and enjoy all we have to offer. The entire house, except the kitchen, is for our guests. Make yourself at home! And remember 1830 Hallauer House Bed & Breakast is unique, quaint, unusual, out of the ordinary, distinct, and one of a kind.
