Biking in Lorain County

After biking cool off in pool!

Biking is big in Lorain County and in Oberlin! And it looks like September and October may just be the perfect months for you to pack your bag, pack your car, pack your bike, and book your stay. Hallauer House B & B is pretty centrally located in Lorain County where some fantastic biking trails are located.

Our Biking Guests

We have welcomed bikers traveling from Chicago to New York via the back roads. And then there were the bikers making their way on the Underground Railroad Bike Trail from Alabama to Erie, PA. And a trio of bikers crossing Ohio to celebrate the first day of spring. Unfortunately for those riders that first day of spring turned out to be very snowy! They were undeterred though so when they arrived here for the night they were very cold, wet, and tired! But we sent them on their way in the morning with full stomachs and dry clothes! If you are planning some long distance biking like our guests mentioned above then be sure to check out the Adventure Cycling Association. There you will find a wealth of information on routes, maps, guided tours, and much more.

Just a short bike ride into Oberlin!

But what about Lorain County? What do we have to offer the cyclist who just wants a short getaway to enjoy the great outdoors. By just staying here at Hallauer House you are in the country and can enjoy the country roads. Round trip into Oberlin will give you 8 miles. Bike around Oberlin and add as many miles as you like. Or bike the country roads to visit Wellington, Lagrange, Grafton, Wakeman. Lots of antique shops, country stores, and cafes to visit. Like wine? Then spend the afternoon biking to our three nearby wineries – Matus Winery, Paper Moon, and Vermilion Valley. Speaking of wine! There is super biking activity in Lagrange every summer called the Dog Days Wine Tour which is a biking tour of either 37, 45, 65, 100, or 125 miles. And you visit wineries along the way! The guests who stayed with us for this years event really enjoyed the pool when the tour was over as the temperatures were near 90 degrees that day!

Biking Trails

If you prefer to stay off of the roads then we have some great traffic free trails for you! Lets start with the one closest to Oberlin, the North Coast Inland Trail also known as the Rails to Trails on the old railroad bed. This runs from Elyria to Kipton with Oberlin just about in the middle. The entire length of the trail is 13 miles and you can get off or on at various intersections. Drive your bike to one of the ends, park your car and travel down and back for a good 26 mile ride!
